Meet the 2021-2022 Coaching Staff

Coach Josh LaRussa

Josh LaRussa was born and raised in Seattle, WA, graduating from Bishop Blanchet High School in 2012, where he played four years of baseball in the Seattle Metro League. Josh continued his playing career at Western Washington University. He will be entering his sixth year with North Seattle Rainiers’ Baseball program.

Josh recently graduated the University of Washington’s College of Education, and now teaches Kindergarten through 8th grade Physical Education at two local schools.

FUN FACT: Josh’s grandfather was also a teacher and baseball coach for 30 years in the Seattle Area.

Coach Spencer Kennedy

Spencer Kennedy grew up in Mill Valley, California and attended Tamalpais High School. After high school, Spencer continued his career as a pitcher at  Oglethorpe University (Atlanta, GA) . Spencer served as the Recruiting Coordinator at Oglethorpe University, Director of Baseball Operations at the University of San Francisco and coached on high school and youth club staffs in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

Spencer currently lives in Seattle with his wife, Danika; who is a doctoral student in the school of physical therapy at the University of Washington. 

FUN FACT: Spencer tags himself as a foodie and his dream is to one day own a cafe. 

Coach Bobby Ogburn

Bobby Ogburn grew up in Seattle, Washington before moving just north of the City and attending Inglemoor High School. While there he played 4 years of baseball, including select up to 18U. He then attended Washington State University for 4 years, graduating with a B.A. in Journalism. After graduating he worked as a news reporter for local Seattle area newspapers. In 2013 he started work as an Instructional Assistant for Seattle Public Schools, eventually finding a permanent home at Roosevelt High School in the Special Education Department. He has helped out the Roughriders baseball team at the JV and C team levels.

Bobby currently lives just North of Seattle and works part time as a free lance journalist. He enjoys traveling, fly fishing, and playing the drums.

FUN FACT: Bobby’s Mother and Grandmother attended Roosevelt High School, making him a 3rd generation Roughrider.

Get a Free Sports Physical Starting Sept. 5th

Can't get a hold of your doctor and you need a sports physical? The Teen Health Center (room 225) offers sports physicals to all SPS students free of charge!

You can also contact the RHS Teen Health Center by emailing Suna.oh@neighborcare.org or text 206-653-9786 to schedule. 

Appointments start on Sept. 5th, 2023. 

RHS Varsity Gx Ultimate Frisbee Currently Ranked #1 in the Nation!

The RHS Varsity Gx Program is currently ranked #1 in the nation! In addition to their current 5-1 season record, the team was proud to bring home the Seattle Invite trophy, where they played undefeated in six intense tournament games, just before Spring Break. The Seattle Invite tournament showcases teams from Washington, Oregon, Utah, and more. Come cheer on your team as they go into SPS and then State Playoffs in early to mid-May! The first play-off game is on Thursday, May 4, time and opponent to be announced!

Spring Pint Night is Monday, May 1st - 7-9pm

  • Tickets for 2 pints of Roosevelt Beer (other beer, wine or cocktails available for personal purchase)

When purchasing a ticket, select General Booster Fund in the "sport" menu, AND type Pint Night in "Notes". Enter $45 in "donation amount", come, drink beer, and have fun!

All proceeds from Pint Night will go to the Roosevelt Athletic Booster Club, which funds a portion of the school's on-site Athletic Trainer and helps teams pay for uniforms, equipment, facility fees, and other needs.
